DIRECTOR AT LARGE REPORT
SUBMITTED BY FRED EYRICH
At last years meeting, I reported that all the street name signs, stop signs and their posts were cleaned, repaired and painted and that in the coming year (2009-10) the speed limit signs would have to be repaired and painted as needed.
In January I inspected and cleaned all of our signage throughout our community and found that most of the street name signs are still in good shape except for the top edge of the signs because of the constant exposure to the sun. The tops of the signs need a coat of paint. Most of the sign poles need a coat of paint. There are 2 stop signs that need to be either repaired or replaced. I recommend that they be replaced with the plastic type like the one that was installed last year at the NEC of Seminole Lakes Blvd. & Stillwater Circle. I also recommend that we should replace all the stop signs as needed with that type sign.
The numbers on the speed limit signs were in terrible shape. I brought a sample of the numbers with me as a show and tell. I checked on the internet to find plastic numbers the size that we needed for the signs and was shocked at the price. It was $50.00 each. We have 12 speed limit signs with 2 numbers each, let’s do the math 12 X 2 = 24 X $50.00 = $1200. You all know that I do not like to spend that kind of money when I knew it could be done for less. I went to building supply and found a ¾" X 9 1/4" X 8’ piece of plastic siding that I could make the numbers with. The piece I bought was going to be $34.00 + tax but it was a little scuffed up so I asked for a discount. I got it for $20.00 + tax. I was able to make 11 sets of numbers for $21.40 plus about eight hours of my time. I would be remiss if I did not also report that our friend, and good neighbor, Jack Carpenter helped by painting the numbers with 3 coats of paint. By the way, the numbers are attached with stainless steel screws and should outlast all of us.
Another project that needed to be addressed was the accent lighting at the front gate. There were several light fixtures that were rusted internally and I replaced them. The timer motors for these lights were attacked by large ants and they burnt out. I had to replace 2 timer motors.
Mike Cole Landscaping was contracted to clear the vegetation where the downed chain link fence separating our property and the SEMLAK property is. He did a very good job.
The fence has now been repaired and re-erected by the following members of our community:
Jim Marchky Chairman of the Landscape Committee
Jay Huber Chairman of the Access Control Committee
Bill Murphy Chairman Maintenance Committee
Chuck Marklin Access Control Committee
Fred Eyrich Director at Large
The efforts of the many volunteers in our community not only saves all of us money but also lets our P.O.A. function more efficiently.
