Maintenance Committee Report-December

In the past month the Maintenance Committee has been very busy. The following is a report of our accomplishments:

Joe Gartner has been doing a great job with the Red Tag Program which informs residents that their lamppost light is not working. Please, when you see a red tag on your lamppost, replace the bulb or check out the reason that it is not working.

Bob Toth and I checked out and cleaned areas around the survey markers.

Friday, Nov. 10th Joe Ring & I repaired the letters on the sign at entrance. On Saturday Bob Toth & I scrubbed the front sign wall and letters in preparation for painting. On Monday November the 13th after the board meeting Joe Ring, Rudy Bruno, Rich Hasenzahl and I painted the sign wall at the front entrance. Rich & Rudy painted some of the letters. On Tuesday morning one of our residents, I am sorry I forgot his name, painted some of the letters and then on Tuesday afternoon Helena DiSessa, Lillian Conover, Carol Bruno and Ed Kineke finished painting the letters on the sign.

The efforts of our volunteers in repairing and painting the letters on the entrance wall saved the community a lot of money. I had estimates as high as $6000 to replace the letters and as low as $1800, if we installed the letters ourselves. The repairs to the letters are only a band-aid fix. Replacement of the letters is inevitable and will be a future expense that the board will have to consider.

There were several repairs that were needed around the guard house. The visitor’s gate and the outside light and the fan inside these were done by Joe Ring

Another project that was completed was replacement of some of the electrical fitting and lights that were corroding. Joe Ring, Rudy Bruno and I installed the new lights along the entrance wall. I hope that everyone likes the new look of our entrance with the new lights.

Joe Ring took care of several repairs around the guardhouse that were needed. The visitor’s gate arm, the light outside and something inside.

Another project that was completed was the assembling of the 4 benches approved by the board last month. This job took 3 hours with five men working. They were Joe Gartner, Dick Gibbs, Rex Wright, Bob Hess and I.

Joe Gartner & I suggest that the benches be placed on cement blocks so that Greenscape does not cut the legs with their weedwackers. We would need 24 12" x 12" blocks. Each bench has 6 legs.

Bob Toth & I cleared pepper bushes in the area were we wanted to put the storage shed across from the guardhouse. When I went to Zoning they informed me that we had to apply for change in an ordinance that was established back in 1997. This is something the board has to do before we can have this shed.

There are 19 cracks in the Burnt Store Rd. wall that need to be fixed before the wall can be wash down and painted. I would like to enlist some help from the residents that live along Feathersound Drive in the effort to complete this project. Joe Ring and I will start repairing the cracks this afternoon if anyone wants to help just show up. When the repairs are complete we will need water supplied by residents along the wall to wash it down and then helpers to paint it. The wall must be washed down and then a sealer coat applied before it can be painted. If you do not follow this process the new paint will peel.
