Landscape Committee Report
Annual Meeting, March 8, 2010
I accepted the position of chairperson for the Landscape Committee a few months ago. Since then, the committee has been busy with a number of projects.
Last November, Claude Crass and I started to spray the weeds in the landscaping and driveways of those homes that were vacant and going thru the foreclosure process. At this time, there are eight homes that fall in this category. We also assist the maintenance committee in keeping the sides of our roads free of weeds.
In December we had our annual clean-up party. Ten volunteers assisted in trimming , sawing, and cutting of overgrown shrubs and trees alongside the pool and tennis court. It took five hours to do the work, and sixty bags of red mulch was laid in the area. The area on the right side of the parking lot entrance was beautified with donated plants. No association funds were spent as Jack Stephenson donated money to purchase the mulch.
We worked with Greenscapes, and they quoted a price to purchase and plant 120 geraniums in the first median strip as you exit the front entrance. The plants are now larger and will grow into a beautiful sight. The cost was $390 and came out of the landscape improvement budget and was approved by the board.
In late February, the committee along with 20 resident volunteers spread 320 bags of red mulch at the front and rear entrance common areas. This was approved by the board and the funds came from the landscape improvement budget. The cost was $600. The response to my request for volunteers was fantastic.
We are monitoring the dead branches on the shrubs at the front and rear entrance, and Greenscapes will be pruning away the dead branches in a few weeks. At this time it is anticipated some shrubs were killed by the cold weather. They will have to be replaced.
On behalf of the landscape committee, I am thanking all those residents that volunteered with the spreading of the mulch.
We also keep the area where the fountain pump and electrical equipment is located clean of debris to avoid a fire hazard. We also periodically remove dead branches from the shoreline of the front entrance lake.
Thank You
Jim Marchky
