Lakes and Roads & Maintenance Committee Report

Submitted by Fred Eyrich

The two committees have been combined. Joe Ring is the director to over see the activities and I will be the chairman.

Presently there are several projects either proposed or in progress. To start out with Joe Ring and I did a survey of the street and traffic signs throughout our community and found many of them to be in need of extensive repair or replacement. Jack Carpenter has agreed to repair and paint the ones that can be repaired. The board has purchased one plastic 24" X 24" simulated wood stop sign that I installed at the intersection of Seminole Lakes & Stillwater. We want to see how this type will hold up to our weather conditions. If this type proves satisfactory then we would replace the Stop Signs on an as needed basis. The sign repair project is underway I have or will be removing street signs for repair and painting. Jack Carpenter is doing a spectacular job repairing and painting the signs. Then I will be re-installing them. Some of the signs need new "L" brackets that I am making out of aluminum. The old brackets were steel which rust. When this job is completed all of the signs will have aluminum brackets and all of the street name signs will look like new.

As this project goes forward all posts will be washed down and painted as needed. All posts will then have a protective collar so that the weed whackers will not do damage to the sign posts. Again we need members of our community to assist in this and other projects. See or call me.

If you remember for the last several months I asked for volunteers to spray the weeds along our road edges, well several residents have volunteered to help out. After I proposed that the Board contract someone do this on a monthly basis at a cost of $295.00 a month several of our members came forward to volunteer to do this job. Now that we took care of the roads let us address the Lakes.

Lake "D" has an erosion problem and before it takes away backyards of the properties on this lake we have asked for estimates on two options. re-grade and sod and re-grade and riprap and sod. Four companies were contacted and we received two bids, and two declined to bid stating the project was too labor intensive and they did not have the proper equipment. . One of the companies, the one doing the site work at the new firehouse, said his equipment is too big. This is another project that I presented to the board for consideration at our May 2008 meeting. There was a meeting of the homeowners from around this lake on Thursday, May 8th and they all agreed that we should go forward with this project. This will be a major expenditure.

We also requested bids to repair a street catch basin where the underground pipe has broken. That repair must be done and the cost will be $870.

Now for Maintenance,

The road side of the Burnt Store wall has been repaired, power washed and painted. Jonathan Ler’Schea, was contracted for the job. Most of the owners along the wall supplied water for the power washing.

Another job was to repair sprinkler pump near rear gate. This was done by Joe Ring and Max Puckett. Another job that Joe Ring did was to repair the light on top of the Logo sign at the front gate. There is still another project that we need to do to increase our security as a gated community. We need about 6 men to assist. They must be strong and able. The project is to straighten the fence posts and fence along the golf course at the end of our wall. I estimate the job would take about an hour.

There are many mailboxes and lamp posts that need to be cleaned, painted, repaired or replaced. Contact me if you need help.

For two weeks in a row we had a miracle happen as we had 100% of the post lights in the community functioning. Thanks to Joe Gartner who each week at four in the morning does these inspections.

Thank You

Fred Eyrich
