CERT REPORT for POA Meeting
11-9-09
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, CERT held their monthly meeting. The guest speaker, Chief Ray Briggs from the Punta Gorda Fire Department, delivered a presentation on the efforts being taken by the city to administer the vaccine to combat the H1N1 swine flu virus. He explained the types of the flu we are encountering. Chief Briggs said that the steps currently being administered are within the federal guidelines. Phase one included inoculating school children first followed by pregnant women and on to those who are employed in the essential services of the city. Most of the individuals have already received their vaccines.
They are now entering the final stage, whereas the remainder of the citizens will be eligible for this free vaccine. In order to accomplish this, he requested for some volunteers to assist in this process. Nine out of the 15 CERT members present volunteered.
In addition, there were two volunteers from the Health Department who walked us through the process of how we can assist. Administration centers will be set up to channel anyone who wishes to be vaccinated. Chief Briggs will notify the CERT leader, who, in turn, will notify the Seminole Lakes residents by our e-mail site.
In conclusion, this exemplifies the pro-active actions taken by this group of SLCC volunteers to assist residents in time of need.
